October-March planning · Haywood County & Western NC

Fall and winter outdoor property guide

Prepare planted areas, paths and drainage for colder weather, then plan spring stonework and landscape improvements.

October-November: leaves, water and tender plants

Keep leaves from building up on steps and walking routes. Look for blocked drain openings and note water pooling beside walls or patios. Recurring roads, culvert and grounds maintenance belongs with Gamez Property Services.

Bring frost-sensitive container plants indoors before conditions fall below their tolerance. Inspect them for pests and adjust light and watering for indoor conditions. The right timing depends on the plant, not a single calendar date.

December-January: watch the property after storms

From a safe location, check for loose branches, blocked access and new water paths. Damaged or hazardous trees need a qualified tree professional; do not work near utility lines.

Avoid assuming every tree or shrub should be cut back before snow. Pruning depends on species and bloom time. NC State Extension explains pruning timing.

February-March: prepare the spring project

Photograph drainage trouble spots while they are visible. Decide how you want a patio, wall, steps or planted area to connect with the rest of the yard. Share wide photos, access details and your priorities with Omar.

Explore masonry and hardscapes and landscape improvements and fencing. For continuing winter access and grounds care, start with Gamez Property winter planning.

Keep water in the project conversation

Water behind a wall, across steps or beside a patio can affect how the space performs. Describe what happens during rain and thawing weather. A site visit helps determine the grading, drainage and any engineering required for the work.

Talk through your property and timing

Share the town, photos, access and the work you have in mind. We will discuss the fit and next steps. Final scope, materials and pricing are set after a site visit.
